If your pet is having an emergency, call us first. Charis Vets in Budaiya provides emergency care for dogs, cats and other pets in Bahrain, including emergency surgery, oxygen therapy and overnight hospital care.
What to do in an emergency
- During opening hours: call the clinic on 1310 6800 before you set off, so our team can get ready for your pet.
- Out of hours and on Fridays: call our emergency line directly on 3362 0230.
- Please phone, do not message. WhatsApp and social media messages may not be seen quickly in an emergency.

The emergencies we see most in Bahrain
Swallowing something toxic
Rat poison, human medicines, chocolate, xylitol (found in some sugar-free foods), cleaning products and some plants are common causes. Call us straight away. Do not try to make your pet sick unless a vet tells you to, and bring the packaging with you if you can.
Breathing difficulties
Fast, noisy or open-mouth breathing, blue or pale gums, or struggling to breathe at rest all need urgent care. Keep your pet calm and cool on the way.
Allergic reactions
Sudden swelling of the face or muzzle, hives, or vomiting after an insect sting or bite can be serious, especially if breathing is affected.
Other signs that need urgent care
- Collapse, weakness or being unable to stand
- Seizures
- Heavy bleeding or a deep wound
- Heatstroke signs: heavy panting, drooling, wobbliness or collapse after time in the heat
- A swollen, hard belly, especially in large dogs
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, or vomiting blood
- Straining to pass urine with little or nothing coming out
- Any road accident, even if your pet seems fine
