When a pet is very old or seriously ill, the aim of care gently changes from curing to comfort. Our hospice and end-of-life care helps your pet stay as comfortable and pain-free as possible, and supports you and your family through the decisions that come at the end.
Our end-of-life services
- Quality-of-life consultations: an honest, unhurried look at how your pet is coping and what can still be done to help.
- Pain and comfort plans: pain relief, diet, bedding and small changes at home, tailored to your pet.
- Euthanasia at home: a peaceful goodbye in familiar surroundings, with your family around.
- Euthanasia at the clinic: in a calm, private setting, with time to say goodbye.
- Help with cremation or burial: we can help you arrange aftercare in Bahrain. Ask our team about the options.
Pain is not always obvious
One thing our vets wish every owner knew: pets are very good at hiding pain. A pet may still eat, wag its tail or purr and yet be uncomfortable. Quieter signs to look out for include:
- Sleeping more, or restlessness and pacing at night
- Reluctance to climb stairs, jump up or go for walks
- Hiding, or wanting to be alone more than usual
- Panting or fast breathing while resting
- Grooming less, or licking one area over and over
- Losing interest in food, toys or family
A quality-of-life consultation helps you see what is really happening, and whether your pet’s comfort can be improved.
Knowing when it is time
There is rarely a perfect moment, and it is one of the hardest decisions an owner faces. Some families find it helps to keep a simple diary of good days and bad days. When the bad days start to outnumber the good ones, or pain can no longer be controlled, it is time to talk to your vet. We will give you honest advice and will never rush you.
Saying goodbye at home
Many families prefer their pet’s last moments to be at home, where they feel safe. Our vets can come to you anywhere in Bahrain. Please call us to arrange a time, and we will explain each step before we begin. You can also choose to say goodbye at our clinic in Budaiya.
